Brief
Getting ready for their concert programme celebrating 400 years of John Dowland, this piece was recorded as part of the marketing for their upcoming concerts.
Challenge
The lute is a particularly soft instrument, and should be recorded to capture its sonority without too strong a pluck. Meanwhile the classical voice is particularly loud, and the room forms part of its timbre.
Solution
We used small omnidirectional microphones which we could place in the scene, hidden from view. These gave a rich stereo sound, that is more similar to what the live audience will expect to hear.
